But monitoring data cannot confirm the condition of roof fixings, electrical connections, isolators, earthing or cabling. Nor does it explain whether shading, ageing equipment or the original system design is restricting performance.
A Solar Health Check brings those separate pieces together. Qualified solar electricians examine the system’s electrical safety, physical condition, operating history and real-world performance.
It is rather like a vehicle dashboard: it can warn you about certain problems, but it cannot confirm that everything beneath the bonnet is safe and working efficiently.
Whether your system was installed by us or by another company, the purpose is the same: to give you clear evidence about its present condition without automatically trying to sell you a replacement.
WHAT DOES A SOLAR HEALTH CHECK EXAMINE?
The precise scope depends on the system and safe access, but a thorough assessment considers six connected areas.
Electrical safety
AC and DC cabling, isolators, terminations, earthing and protective devices are checked for visible defects, deterioration or unsuitable workmanship.
Inverter and fault history
We review inverter operation, warning messages, fault codes and available monitoring records for signs of intermittent operation, overheating or declining performance.
Panels and roof mounting
Visible panels, rails, clamps and roof fixings are examined for damage, movement, poor positioning or anything that may affect the security and weather resistance of the installation.
Generation and shading
Available generation records are considered alongside the system’s size, layout, orientation and surrounding shade to identify whether its performance appears reasonable.
Ageing and deterioration
We look for accessible signs of cable deterioration, heat stress, corrosion, water ingress, pest damage or components approaching the end of their useful service life.
Future readiness
We consider whether the existing system could accommodate changes such as battery storage, a replacement inverter or panel-level controls without recommending upgrades that offer little practical value.
WHEN IS A SOLAR HEALTH CHECK WORTHWHILE?
You do not need to wait for the system to stop working completely. Changes in generation, unexplained warnings or uncertainty about an older installation can all justify a closer look.

A HEALTH CHECK IS NOT A SALES APPOINTMENT
The most useful outcome may simply be confirmation that the system is safe, secure and performing reasonably for its age and design.
Where something does require attention, we separate essential work from optional improvement. A minor correction should not become an excuse to sell an unnecessary replacement system, battery or inverter.
Our findings will normally lead to one of three straightforward outcomes.
Everything appears well
No remedial work is recommended. You receive reassurance and a clearer understanding of the system’s present condition and expected performance.
Corrective work is advisable

WHAT CAN A SOLAR HEALTH CHECK CONFIRM?
A health check provides a structured assessment of the accessible system and the evidence available on the day. Its conclusions must remain proportionate to what can safely be seen, tested and documented.

SOLAR HEALTH CHECK FAQs
Can a healthy solar system still leave me with unexpectedly high electricity bills?
Yes. A system may be generating properly while the household uses much of its electricity at different times. The health check can help distinguish equipment performance from consumption timing, tariff arrangements and unrealistic original expectations.
Does lower generation during winter mean something is wrong?
Not necessarily. Shorter days, a lower sun angle and poorer weather naturally reduce winter generation. The useful comparison is with similar periods and conditions, rather than comparing winter output directly with summer.
Can you assess a system installed by a company that no longer trades?
Yes. Many health checks concern systems whose original installer is unavailable. Existing documents and monitoring records are helpful, but their absence does not prevent an initial assessment of the accessible installation.
Should I arrange a health check before adding a battery?
It can be sensible. The existing inverter, electrical protection, generation profile and available connection arrangements should be understood before deciding whether a battery is compatible or financially worthwhile.
Does a Solar Health Check include panel cleaning?
Not automatically. Most panels receive some natural cleaning from rainfall, and reduced generation should not immediately be blamed on dirt. If significant contamination, bird fouling or debris is visible, appropriate cleaning or access requirements can be discussed separately.
